Term: Weave Hair Extensions

Hair extensions have been used primarily by women across the globe for millenniums.  Traditional hair extensions can be applied with clips, tape or bonding glue. 

In the West, hair weave specifically refers to wefts which are connected to a person’s natural hair which has been braided. 

The system was patented in 1952 by Louisiana native Christiana Jenkins.

The weave first became became prominent in the America in the second half of the 20th century with Black women.  As the weave's popularity grew, this very special type of hair extension became popular with all types of people.

Weave hair extensions are not only a special technique, they're also a recognized aesthetic and terminology.
