Term: Texturizer
A texturizer is sometimes the name used in the hair industry to refer to a mild relaxing treatment. Instead of creating ’bone straight’ strands this type of chemical treatment is left on for a shorter period of time and often contains less traumatic chemicals. The goal with a texturizer is to slightly relax the natural texture so that it’s much more manageable. This means that some of the natural texture will remain in the hair and can be enhanced with proper styling techniques. Natural curl experts differ in their opinions about whether it's okay to apply texturizers to naturally curly, wavy, kinky or coily strands. Some curl experts believe just one application can alter the natural curl pattern forever. Others believe that it's okay to have texturizers applied on an occasional basis. Ultimately the decision whether to utilize a texturizer or not must be based on personal goals with the help of your professional hairstylist.
