Hair Glossary

A closet hairstylist or closet hairdresser is a hair consumer who is tempted to take hair cutting, coloring, styling or chemical processing into their own hands. The Silver/Gray Beauty Book by Tony Ray & Angela Hynes makes a specific reference to the term "closet hairdresser" which they define as "the temptation to take matters literally into your own hands" with regard to cutting, coloring or perming hair. The term Closet Hairstylist may still be used by hair professionals in some settings.
