Term: Beehive Queen

Hairdresser Margaret Heldt from Elmhust, Illinois (outside of Chicago) is known as the Beehive Queen for her creation, in the early 1960s of the very first Beehive Hairdo. Margaret designed the Beehive when challenged by a magazine in 1960 to create something different. She dumped tradition and use a box as her inspiration, created the Beehive which was ultimately adopted by the Blue Haired Madge Simpson on the popular Simpson TV show. The Beehive gave Margaret the title of Queen of the Beehive and her do inspired a generation to tease and spray their hair into major heights. The Beehive style has had some comebacks, especially in the late 1990s. It continues to be seen in various modified versions on catwalks around the world on an ongoing basis. Many hairdressers claim that the Beehive is the perfect style that only a hairdresser can create. Some called it the peak of the hairdressing era.
